U.I Chapter of NASU, NAAT and SSANU embarks on an indefinite strike 

​UI academic activities to be suspended as NASU, NAAT and SSANU embark on an indefinite strike. 

The Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities,SSANU of the University of Ibadan has commenced an indefinite strike. 

The reason for the strike is to protest a shortfall in the payment of salaries and allowances of their members.

The decision to embark on an indefinite strike was reached this morning 13th March, 2017  at the University premises (Niser park) opposite the institution`s  administrative building. 

Information gathered revealed that the Association advised her members to come to work but not to work. 

“We are on indefinite strike, but we would only be coming to work,” one of the members who claimed anonymity said.

It should be worthy of note that ASSU, U.I Chapter threatened to embark on a week strike if their demands were not met on Friday 10th of March, 2017. 

AmasNigeria also  gathered from THE PAGE as reported on their website on  March 10, 2017, that the management through a release signed by the Vice Chancellor and also made available on the university website submitted that,

“I implore the Joint Action Congress of SSANU, NAAT& NASU to give the University management some time to address all the issues raised in the Unions’ Resolution and constructively resolve them in the best interest of all stakeholders.”

While the Vice Chancellor differed many of the matters to University Council, he also provided response to some of the requests as he declared in response to the illegal pension deduction, “The Employee’s Contributory Pension shown on pay slips is just a reflection of each member of staff’s pension contribution deducted by the Federal Government from source. Please note that NO PENSION DEDUCTION IS EVER MADE BY THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN.” as early proclaimed by the association here

On the issue of shortfall, The Vice Chancellor also explained that “The Management of the University of Ibadan has taken positive steps to resolve the issue of short-fall in salaries by visiting Abuja on many occasions. The office of the Accountant General of the Federation has promised that March 2017 salary will be paid in full as it was in January 2017. It has also promised to refund the short-fall in February salary with the payment of April 2017 salary.”
