JUPEB Requirements for admission into the programme should be taken into consideration by all prospective JUPEB candidates in order to be on the right track
JUPEB requirements here simply means the criterials you need to meet before you can be admitted into JUPEB programme. In this post we will expose to the requirement for admission into jupeb Programme and how to calculate your points.
Before we start list all JUPEB requirements, let us quickly know what JUPEB is about.
Joint University Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB) is an examination body that conduct JUPEB Examinations at Advanced Levels.
The Advanced Level examination is equivalent to GCE Advanced Level and Higher School, Certificate, HSC. Students sit for three(3) Advanced Level subjects and on successful completion, proceed to the 2nd year of undergraduate programmes in various universities in the country Provided the student makes the minimum required points.
JUPEB have partner Universities abroad. This means the results can also be used to seek admissions in universities abroad.
JUPEB REQUIREMENTS for Admission
- (a) five O/L credit passes as contain in jamb brochure.
- Awaiting result can also apply but O/L result must be available before University admission.
- O’Level Result (Max of 2 sittings)
- Six (6) Passport Photographs
- Printed copy of applicant’s admission letter….and othersNote that;
- No JAMB/PUTME score is needed for Admission
The minimum point required for JUPEB candidates to gain admission into 200lv without JAMB in any Nigerian University is 5points.
Although many universities have stipulated minimum of passes (i.e. grades E) in two(2) subjects among the three(3) subjects on offer, we have realise that general performance in the examination rather suggests these universities admit students with higher grades. In this note, we advise students to take their studies seriously in other to gain direct admission into 200lv in Nigerian Universities that accept JUPEB
Below is a detailed explanation of how points are graded in JUPEB ;
In fig 1.1; For a student that register for (3) Subjects with grade such as Physics (A); Chemistry (B); then Biology (C), the total number of points scored is calculated as follows; English is a general course in JUPEB, so is not included.

70% – 100% A 5 Points
60% – 69% B 4 Points
50% – 59% C 3 Points
45% – 49% D 2 Points
40% – 44% E 1 Point
39% and Below F 0 Point
One of jupeb requirements requires Applicants to possess credits in at least five relevant O’ Level subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) in WASC/SSCE, GCE, NABTEB, in not more than two sittings. Candidates with awaiting results are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants are to register for three subjects according to their proposed course of study in the University. JUPEB subjects are the same as those of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. These are:
ARTS: Christian Religious Studies, French, History, Islamic Religious Studies, Literature-in-English, Music and Yoruba.
MANAGEMENT AND SOCIAL SCIENCE:
Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Geography and Government
SCIENCE: Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
Admission of JUPEB graduates into University of Ilorin will be based
strictly on merit and entry requirements and in proportion to the admission quota of the University for the various Faculties.
